Training:

The contents refer to a four day course. In a three day course particular contents may only be touched resp. not adressed at all. Dependend on the knowledge and the special interests of the participants the contents may differ in particular from the listings below. All participants receive a schooling booklet including a thematical CD-ROM.

Getting started with ArcView GIS 3.x Contents:
  • Object-oriented design of ArcView; relations and properties of projects, views and themes as well as their different menus
  • Construction of a mobile project with relative path names
  • Layer-orientied buildup of a views; working with the table of contents (TOCs)
  • Creation of a view; insertion, activation and masking of themes and legends
  • Working with feature tables; selection of data sets; data set queries
  • Creation and editing of a vector theme (point, line, polygon) and joining ofexternal data
  • Insertion of feature data as event themes
  • Connection of external data with hotlinks
  • Creation of thematic maps with different legends
  • Working with tables: Linking, joining, queries, calculations and extraction of selected records
  • Creation of diagrams
  • Creation and customizing of layouts; scaled printout of maps

ArcView GIS 3.x and Spatial Analyst Contents:
  • Data formats in the GIS (Vector/raster, ASCII/binary, feature data, images, ArcView, Arc/INFO and other data formats)
  • Conversion of raster into vector themes and vice versa
  • Activation and working with Extensions; Integration and starting of scripts
  • Import of CAD data; conversion into shapes; different requirements of data in CAD and GIS systems
  • Working with images: composition of images with different color depth, transparent colors
  • Warping of an aerial photography
  • Construction and creation of geocoded spatial data: ASCII grids,images
  • Working with Spatial Analyst: Calculation of topographic parameters, merging of grids, spatial queriesand calculations
  • Interpolation methods
  • Working with Elevation models
  • Working with user extensions  (X-Tools, Gridmachine, Grid Plus etc.)

Avenue programming for ArcView 3.x  Contents:
  • Object-oriented design of the programming environment Avenue (Properties and hierarchical relations of objects, Avenue syntax)
  • Working with the script editor
  • Embedding of scripts and project related customizing of the user interface
  • Name and programming conventions; design of professional scripts
  • User communication with input/output dialogs (MsgBox)
  • Processing of variables (local/global variables; numbers, strings, boolean variables) and lists
  • Starting of scripts and transfer of variable values
  • Working with relative pathnames in order to create mobile projects
  • Buildup of project-related startup and exit scripts
  • Conception of an independend ArcView project
  • Automatic input and output of themes
  • Connection of path independend hotlinks
  • Working with tables in Avenue
  • Programming of an SQL connection
  • Working with legends and TOCs
  • Automized export of information into text files
  • Programming of an extension
